This bedspread was made by Esther Hansen, and I’m really drawn to the way it looks like a painting. The repeated use of these small strips of fabric, pieced together, reminds me of brushstrokes. What I love most is how the colors interact. There’s this vibrant red that cuts across the entire piece, creating a bold geometric structure. But within these red lines, there’s this incredible variety of patterns and hues. Each little rectangle seems to have its own story. I can almost feel the texture of the different fabrics and imagine the time and care that went into selecting and arranging each piece. The whole composition seems to vibrate with energy. It reminds me of the work of some abstract painters like Mondrian, but there’s also something very personal and intimate about it. It suggests both a sense of order and a kind of beautiful, organized chaos. For me it’s a reminder that art can be found in the most unexpected places and that beauty can emerge from the simplest of materials.
