This 18th-century *rumal* is a square piece of embroidered fabric from South Asia. It is a beautiful example of the decorative arts of the region and a testament to the skill and artistry of anonymous craftspeople. The intricate floral motifs are executed in a variety of colors, including red, blue, green, yellow, and gold. The piece is thought to have been used as a handkerchief or a decorative item. *Rumals* were often given as gifts or used as part of religious ceremonies. This particular piece is a valuable example of the textile traditions of South Asia and is now part of the permanent collection of the Minneapolis Institute of Art.
