"Lick and Lather" (1993) by Janine Antoni is a series of 14 bust sculptures, each measuring 60.96 × 40.64 × 33.02 cm. The busts are arranged in two rows, facing each other, creating a sense of dialogue. The busts on the left are made of chocolate, and those on the right are made of soap, highlighting the dualities of indulgence and self-care. The work is a commentary on the female body and the conflicting pressures placed upon women. The installation's title is a reference to the act of applying soap and water to the body, a gesture both personal and universal.
