This small photograph of a house and trees by a canal, is printed on the pages of a book. The photograph is a study in light and shadow, and that’s something I always look for in art. In this image it seems like it’s not just about capturing a scene, but also experimenting with how light interacts with objects and the atmosphere, you know? The surface has a slightly rough texture, which I like, it’s almost like the photograph itself has a kind of skin. There's an ambiguity here. It reminds me of Atget, the way he captured Paris, always with a sense of something melancholic and fleeting, but it also reminds me of a photo that I would have taken myself. It’s about seeing what you can do with what you have, and about keeping an open mind. Ultimately, for me, art is about that conversation, about seeing things in new ways, and letting your imagination run wild.
