Willi Baumeister made "Amenophis," using what looks like lithography, where the process itself is like an archeological dig, each layer revealing the past. I imagine Baumeister, deeply invested in the act of creation, layering forms and colors, building up this image like a coded message, pushing and pulling the ink. The blacks assert themselves, yet the blues and reds pop, creating this visual tension. It’s as though he's channeling some ancient language. The piece reminds me of Paul Klee who used these kind of hieroglyphic figures. The interplay of abstract shapes and cryptic symbols suggests the artist playing with the subconscious, inviting us into a world where meaning isn't fixed but fluid, where the act of looking becomes an act of interpretation, of finding our own stories within his painted language. That's the beauty of painting – it's an ongoing conversation across time, artists inspiring each other, pushing the boundaries of what it means to see and feel.
