This plate, by Christian Royal, is decorated with a wreath of leaves and small dragonfly motifs. The wreath, in the West, has ancient roots, symbolizing victory, honor, and cyclical renewal. Think of the laurel wreaths adorning Roman emperors, emblems of triumph and eternal life, passed down from the Greeks. Here, the wreath frames the plate, suggesting not just a decorative border but a continuous cycle of nature. Scattered within and around are tiny dragonflies, often seen as symbols of transformation and adaptability due to their own metamorphosis. They are creatures of both water and air, life and death. We see how these symbols persist through time, each era adapting and layering new meanings onto them. The image of a wreath and dragonflies engages something deep within us, a connection to natural cycles. The dragonflies add a sense of light, of change and the constant flow of life. It echoes through our collective memory, resurfacing in new forms to convey enduring truths.
