The ages of women 1594 - 1678

Salomon Savery’s etching *The ages of women* (1594 - 1678) depicts the stages of a woman’s life as she ages. Each of the seven figures represents a different stage of life, and the figures are arranged in a pyramid shape on a staircase. The woman in the first stage is depicted as an infant, and the woman in the last stage is depicted as an elderly woman. The artwork, currently in the SMK - Statens Museum for Kunst, is a powerful reminder of the passage of time and the impermanence of life.
