This gold pendant, created by the Veraguas people in present-day Panama between the 12th and 13th centuries, is a beautiful example of Pre-Columbian goldwork. The piece features two stylized tusks, perhaps meant to represent a jaguar, a powerful animal in many indigenous cultures. It’s a significant piece of art and history that helps us understand the artistry and craftsmanship of the Veraguas people, who are known for their intricate gold jewelry. This pendant is currently housed at the Minneapolis Institute of Art.
