This relentless detail can also be viewed as an aestheticization of nature, a way of possessing it visually. It speaks to a particular Western gaze – one that dissects and catalogues the world around it. Moreover, thinking about colonialism, how does this seemingly objective landscape participate in a broader project of claiming territory, even through representation? Editor: That makes me see it very differently. The "objective" rendering now feels more like an act of appropriation, linking the mountain to broader power dynamics. Curator: Precisely!
