Manuel Rodríguez Lozano made this painting of the three fates, or 'Las Tres Parcas' as they're known in Spanish, using oil on canvas, and boy, it's something. The colors are muted—lots of earth tones, these figures emerging from a dark background. I imagine Lozano in his studio, maybe Mexico City, working slowly, building up layers of paint. Those red threads connecting the figures, almost like a cat's cradle, must have been so carefully laid down. What was he thinking as he painted each line, each curve of their bodies? There's something classical but also surreal here. They are like ghostly figures, connected by this weird game. It reminds me a bit of Frida Kahlo, you know, that same interest in identity, in the body. It's like Lozano is pulling something from deep inside himself, trying to make sense of life, death, destiny. It all feels very personal, very human, and also otherworldly. Artists are always in conversation, across time and space.
