Pierre-Auguste Renoir made this painting of roses in a vase, using oil paint, and a whole lot of feeling. I love how Renoir wasn't trying to paint perfect roses, but more like how a rose makes you feel. The texture is so thick, you can almost smell the flowers. Look how he layers the paint, like he's building up each petal with little pats of color. It's not about getting every detail right, but about capturing the light and the warmth of the scene. It's so tactile! And check out that one white rose near the top, right of center. It's like a little burst of light, surrounded by all those warm oranges and yellows. It's like a little reminder that even in the midst of all this color, there's always room for something unexpected. The way Renoir does flowers always reminds me of Manet, though maybe with a bit more sweetness and optimism. What do you think?
