Henri Matisse made this painting called "Dance (II)" in the early 20th century with oil on canvas. It’s all about simple shapes and colours, right? What I love about Matisse is how he makes it look so easy, like anyone could just slap some paint on a canvas and call it art. But there's a real skill in making something so simple feel so alive. Look at the blue background, that deep, almost electric blue. It's not just a background, it's like the air these dancers are breathing. And those orange figures, they're so full of energy, like they could jump right off the canvas. The paint isn’t trying to hide anything, it’s flat and vibrant. You can almost feel the brushstrokes, like Matisse was just trying to capture a feeling, a moment. Matisse reminds me of Joan Miró, another artist who knew how to make simple shapes sing, and also, it points to the fact that art is ongoing!
