Curator: David Leverett's mixed media work, "Lost Messages," really speaks to the intersection of personal and collective memory, doesn’t it? The superimposition of fragmented imagery feels almost like an archeological dig through layers of trauma and resilience. Editor: Yes, the layered composition, including the images of devastation and what appears to be a map of Ireland, evokes a sense of historical weight. What's your reading of these elements, given the title? Curator: I see Leverett grappling with the weight of history on identity. The destroyed cityscapes juxtaposed with the map and postcard hint at displacement, lost connections. It makes you wonder whose voices have been erased in the dominant narratives. Editor: The overlaid texts adds another layer. I wonder if Leverett is suggesting that language, too, can both reveal and conceal? Curator: Precisely. Consider how power structures often control which stories are told and remembered. Editor: This piece invites us to consider whose stories are often left out, and how we can actively engage with those lost messages. Curator: Absolutely, and perhaps even reclaim them.
