This is an album page with photographs of Kriegsmarine in Urville, made by an anonymous artist. Looking at these photographs, I think about the act of witnessing, of being there, of trying to capture a moment. What was it like to be this anonymous artist, documenting scenes of war and nature with such stark simplicity? The grainy texture and muted tones create a sense of distance, almost as if the artist wanted to see something, but they couldn’t get close. There’s a tension between the technical process of photography, and the actual lived experience of being in that place, during that time. You can feel it, right? The composition is interesting. It’s almost like the artist is trying to frame these little windows into reality, inviting us to question our own role as viewers. Maybe the point isn't about perfectly capturing the moment, but more about capturing the imperfect feeling of it all. This work reminds me that making art is about questioning, about finding your place, and about leaving space for the unknown.
