Editor: Right, let’s talk about Vlada Ralko’s *Acceleration*, painted in 2008. It's acrylic on canvas, and strikes me as intensely unsettling. The figures are fragmented, distorted, almost like a nightmare… How do you interpret this work? Curator: Nightmare is a good word. Ralko’s work often feels like wading through the subconscious. For me, this piece embodies a visceral sense of trauma and transformation. There's the obvious dismemberment, the distorted features—but then there’s that palette. Editor: That shocking pink against the muted browns? Curator: Exactly. Like a raw nerve exposed. And those "bunny ears"— are they cute, or sinister? Think of it in terms of power dynamics, where one figure seems to be devouring the other. I imagine a constant tension, a chaotic movement… Do you get a sense of speed despite the stillness of the paint? Editor: Definitely! It's like the title says: *Acceleration*. Everything feels like it's spinning out of control. Like the artist is processing an overwhelming event and trying to represent it with paint. Curator: It is her expressionist fingerprint. It also is the chaos that can live within oneself. The personal within a world that keeps inflicting harm. Editor: I see that now. It is uncomfortable, but now also captivating to think how painting could give someone freedom of thought. Curator: Indeed. Sometimes, beauty isn’t the point; honesty is. I walked past it many times. Now it also reminds me of personal memories to reconsider and feel lighter. Editor: Wow. This was much more insightful and nuanced than I originally thought. I have a fresh viewpoint to bring back to the class discussion. Thanks.
