Arne Quinze made this enormous installation, *The Sequence,* from lots of wooden planks painted bright red, orange, and cream. Imagine the labor of it all, the teams of people working together to slot each piece into place. There must have been a moment when he stood back, scratched his head, and wondered if it would all hold up. I imagine Quinze up there on a crane, directing operations with a mix of precision and intuition. You know, it's like when you're painting and you get so lost in the physicality of the medium, the colours mixing, the brushstrokes building up, and you don't know what you're making until you're already making it. Each plank has its own grain and texture, like individual brushstrokes, coming together to create this vibrant, chaotic dance of form and color. Looking at this piece, I’m reminded of the work of someone like El Anatsui, who also uses repetition and accumulation to create these immersive, almost overwhelming experiences. Artists are always riffing off each other, you know, adding their own spin, and pushing the conversation forward. It’s a beautiful thing.
