Editor: Here we have Charles-Marie Dulac’s "Jesu Puritas Virginum, Jesu Lux Vera," and what strikes me first is the overwhelming sense of tranquility. It's a houseboat, some trees…but, what story do you think it is trying to tell? Curator: Story? Perhaps it whispers instead. Look at the ethereal light, the almost monochromatic palette. It feels like a dream, doesn't it? I think it's more about evoking a feeling, a sense of spiritual serenity found in nature's quietude. What do you feel? Editor: I see what you mean! It does feel very peaceful, like a scene fading into memory. I didn't consider the spiritual aspect before. Curator: Dulac, with his short life, seemed drawn to the mystical. Maybe he was pointing us to find the sacred in the everyday. Editor: I’ll certainly look at art differently now. Thanks for pointing that out!
