Donald Shaw MacLaughlan’s etching, The Windmill, lets you into a world seen through the eyes of someone who really loves the process. It’s all about the lines, how they dance and weave together. Look closely at the windmill itself. See how the lines aren't just descriptive, they’re kind of emotional? The way he stacks the lines on the tower gives it weight, like you could reach out and feel the rough texture of the wood. And that broken blade? It's so delicate, like a spider web. I see some Whistler here. A similar sense of poetry. MacLaughlan shows us that art isn't just about capturing a scene, but also about capturing a feeling, an atmosphere. It's about the conversation between the artist, the material, and the world. And, most importantly, there is no final meaning.
