This rattle was crafted by the Zuni tribe, its form a vessel of both sound and spirit. The sphere, suggestive of the cosmos, is poised atop a cylindrical handle, grounding it in the earthly realm. Sound, universally, has been used to bridge the gap between the mundane and the divine. Think of the sistrum in ancient Egypt, shaken in rituals to appease the goddess Hathor. Or consider the bells of medieval Europe, rung to ward off evil spirits and call the faithful to prayer. The rattle's ability to conjure sound transforms it into a potent symbol of connection and communication, not unlike the beating of a drum that has pulsed through countless cultures, resonating with ancestral memory. This rattle does more than mark time, it creates an emotional and psychological space, one of collective memory and deep subconscious engagement. In its cyclical sound, there is a suggestion of eternal return.
