This is Klänge Pl.18, by Wassily Kandinsky, and looking at the sharp contrast of black ink on a cream background, I imagine Kandinsky carefully carving into a block, the image emerging line by line. I can almost feel his hand moving, deciding what to keep, what to omit, as these abstract forms take shape. What was he thinking as he made this? Maybe he was thinking of music, maybe he was thinking about the spiritual in art, like some kind of modern-day mystic. I see figures, landscapes, maybe even horses, all simplified, almost like pictograms. You know, this reminds me of other artists I love, like Hilma af Klint, also trying to find new languages. It’s like they're all in conversation, across time, trying to push painting beyond what we already know. This image feels like a moment of searching, a visual poem with no fixed meaning, but so many possibilities.
