This anonymous photograph captures a section of the city wall in Venlo. The sepia tone gives everything a kind of dreamlike quality, like a memory fading at the edges. It makes you wonder, what other stories are lurking in the shadows? I love how the light catches the rough texture of the brick and stone. You can almost feel the age and weight of the wall. Look at that section of crumbling stone near the base – it's like the wall itself is slowly dissolving back into the earth. The people gathered in front become part of the architecture, like ghosts in the machine. They're just hanging out, waiting, existing in the landscape, but it’s also like they could disappear any second. There’s something about the anonymity of this photograph that reminds me of the work of Eugène Atget. It's like a snapshot of a world that's both familiar and strange, a reminder that time keeps moving on, whether we're ready or not.
