Curator: This captivating, untitled work by Jack Gould, now held at the Harvard Art Museums, presents a bustling city street scene. Editor: Immediately, I’m struck by the anonymity of the crowd. There's a feeling of alienation, even in such close proximity. Curator: It's interesting you say that. Consider the time it may have been taken; these scenes reflected the modern subject in the modern city. Editor: Yes, but how are these subjects impacted by consumerism? I can make out a sign for "Garland's" in the background... Curator: And that sign is likely no accident, but an element of the everyday that the artist chooses to include in their work. Editor: This image invites important discussion. Hopefully our listeners continue to think about these issues beyond this exhibit.
