This "Zeefdruk," made by Raoul De Keyser, presents us with the most primal of divisions: a blue expanse meeting a green one. Blue, the color of the heavens and the seas, has long symbolized the divine and the infinite. Green, the color of verdant life, signifies growth, fertility, and the earthly realm. Consider the ancient frescoes of Pompeii or even the tapestries of the Middle Ages. We often find these simple color fields used to denote landscapes, be they real or imagined. Yet here, the starkness of the colors and the absence of detail force us to confront the raw essence of these symbols. It’s as if De Keyser has stripped away the narrative to expose the underlying archetypes buried deep within our collective consciousness. This image reminds us that symbols never truly die. They resurface, transformed by time and culture, yet still echoing the fundamental human experiences they once represented.
