Overlijden van Margaretha Holtzhey, dochter van Martinus Holtzhey, te Middelburg 1759

This small, silver commemorative medal, created by Martin Holtzhey in 1759, commemorates the death of his daughter Margaretha Holtzhey. The obverse of the medal depicts a winged cherub holding a palm branch and a heart. The inscription reads: "Ad Possidendam Beatissim...Liv[e]" ("To Possess Eternal Life"). The reverse features a Latin inscription detailing the date and location of Margaretha's birth and death. This small, personal memorial is a poignant example of 18th century Dutch portraiture.
