The title itself, borrowed from Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland, signals a world turned upside down, where logic and reason are subverted. Playing cards have long been associated with fortune, fate, and the unpredictable nature of life. In earlier times, such as the Renaissance, similar motifs appeared in the context of ‘memento mori’, reminding viewers of the transience of life. Note the figure's closed eyes and expression: these invite us to consider how internal landscapes often mirror external turmoil. The rabbit tattoo and teacup pin further develop the Alice in Wonderland theme, which blends childhood fantasy with adult anxieties. Like symbols in dreams, the imagery draws from our collective subconscious, suggesting that the madness isn't just a personal experience, but a shared human condition. The image engages with the Freudian uncanny, where the familiar becomes strange. These motifs, like echoes from distant eras, resonate with our present moment, as we navigate the unpredictable currents of existence.
