An Astrologer 

Luca Giordano, a prominent Italian Baroque painter, created “An Astrologer” sometime between 1634 and 1705. The artwork depicts a man, possibly an astrologer, holding a piece of paper covered in astrological symbols and a large book in the other hand. The figure is depicted in a dramatic, chiaroscuro style, with strong contrasts of light and dark that lend a sense of depth and grandeur. Giordano's mastery of detail is evident in the finely rendered folds of the man's cloak, the texture of the paper and book, and the subtle expressions on the man's face.
