Henry Morris created this 'Endpaper with Initials LJR,' a decorative paper, using a pattern of repeating diamonds that intersperse the initials "LJR." The diamond, or lozenge, has long been a symbol laden with meanings, from representing fertility and the feminine to signifying enlightenment and spiritual insight across various cultures. Think of the ancient goddess figurines adorned with diamond patterns, echoing a deep connection to the earth and life's generative forces. In this paper, Morris uses the lozenge to evoke an emotional resonance that speaks to the viewer’s subconscious mind. It is interlinked with the initials, thus binding a personal identity with these universal, timeless ideas. This combination creates an effect of rhythm and continuity, thus transforming the endpaper into more than a simple decoration. Instead, the result is a visual echo chamber where personal identity and ancestral memory converge.
