Arnold Peter Weisz-Kubínčan made this little artwork called 'Sawing Wood' with brush and ink, and maybe a little watercolor, who knows? It's like a snapshot of a moment, almost a graphic illustration. The brushstrokes are so immediate, dark against the pale paper. There’s something tense, and a bit sad. I feel his sense of urgency, his need to capture this scene as quickly as possible, like a memory fading away. I wonder if this was his daily life? A back-breaking chore, or a peaceful moment of calm in a troubled world. The wood glows gold, stacked behind the figure. Was he thinking about Van Gogh's sunflowers? All the browns and yellows, it’s like he’s trying to find some warmth in the darkness. Painting always feels like a dialogue across time. Artists are forever answering each other's questions. It’s a way of thinking through feeling, of letting the hand lead the eye.
