Arnold Peter Weisz-Kubínčan made this ink drawing, ‘Lovec’ – ‘Hunter’ in Slovak – with expressive strokes of black and reddish-brown washes. I'm wondering about the process of its making. It’s so immediate. Imagine Weisz-Kubínčan, brush in hand, capturing the scene with quick, confident gestures, building form through layers of transparent ink. The hunter takes aim, his dogs alert, ready to spring into action. It’s gestural, right? See how a few strokes define the figures and the dense forest around them. I can feel the urgency in those marks; they look like a language, don't they? There’s an energy here, a tension in the scene, like a moment frozen in time. The monochromatic palette adds to the drama, emphasizing the interplay of light and shadow. Weisz-Kubínčan was part of a community of artists, each responding to their time, their lives, their worlds. So much is possible when we embrace the accidental. The image doesn’t have to resolve, but it can still speak.
