Joan Miró painted Ciurana, the Path, sometime in his life, using oil on canvas to capture this landscape. He has such a playful approach to colour! The way he puts these tones together feels so intuitive, like a kid unafraid to mix all the colours. It’s a great reminder that artmaking is a process of discovery, a journey without a set destination. Looking closely, you can see how Miró layers the paint, some parts thin and washy, others with a thicker impasto. Check out that bright yellow path snaking through the green hills, it's almost like a glowing river. And those little red dots! They bring to mind tiny flowers or berries, like the painting is alive and growing. Miró reminds me a little of Paul Klee. Both were masters of abstraction. But where Klee felt more architectural, Miró is like pure, unadulterated joy. It reminds us that art doesn’t have to be serious, it can be a playground for the imagination.
