Editor: That's a perspective I hadn't fully considered. The delicate design does mask that history. It makes you wonder about the stories of the people involved in the sourcing, production, and trade of this object. Curator: Precisely! And Pronk, as the artist, was contributing to that system. His designs, commissioned by the Dutch East India Company, were specifically intended to appeal to European tastes and stimulate trade. Who did that benefit? Whose stories were silenced?
