Jerry Guinta made ‘Zoar Plaids’, without a specified date, using what looks like watercolour and graphite on paper. Isn't it funny how he’s captured these textiles, bit like memories, each one slightly faded? I am drawn to the way Guinta handles his materials. The paint is thin, almost transparent, allowing the paper’s surface to breathe. Look closely, and you can see faint pencil lines that give the plaids their structure. The colours, muted reds and blues, evoke a sense of nostalgia, as if these patterns belong to another time. Notice the edges of each plaid, slightly frayed, like they've been torn from a larger cloth. There’s a beautiful tension between precision and imperfection in this piece, a hallmark of the artist’s style. Guinta’s work reminds me a little of Agnes Martin, in its quiet, meditative quality, but with a more intimate, personal touch. I love how art can be both a conversation with the past and a deeply personal expression.
