Editor: This is William Turnbull's "6," from the Tate Collections. It's simply a pale green rectangle on paper. I find it quite serene, almost meditative in its simplicity. What do you see in this piece? Curator: The piece compels us to consider the fundamentals of art making. Notice the subtle variations in the pigment's application, the materiality of the paper itself. Editor: The slight texture, you mean? Curator: Precisely. It challenges the viewer to find meaning not in representation, but in the pure visual experience. How does the size of the work influence your perception? Editor: It's bigger than I expected, that makes it more engaging. It definitely highlights the importance of line and colour here, stripping everything else away. Curator: A fruitful observation. The artist invites us to slow down and consider the essence of form and colour.
