Elina Brotherus created 'One Minute Sculpture. Shoe Föhr Evening' as part of a series which invites us to think about how we interact with our environment through simple acts. Brotherus draws inspiration from Erwin Wurm's 'One Minute Sculptures', which provides instructions for viewers to pose with everyday objects. Here, we see a woman standing in a field with a shoe balanced on her head. The setting is rather bleak, with a grey sky and harvested field suggesting a melancholy mood. The woman's dark clothing blends with the landscape, while the shoe, ordinary and slightly absurd, creates a focal point. The piece plays with ideas of identity and place, questioning how we find balance in both our physical and emotional landscapes. Brotherus's work often incorporates elements of performance and photography to explore the relationship between the body, the self, and the world around us. This piece is interesting because it offers a moment of reflection, inviting us to consider the often-overlooked beauty and strangeness of our everyday lives, and how we, as individuals, fit within these quiet moments.
