This is a letter to Philip Zilcken, penned in Amsterdam on August 26, 1896, by Ewaldus Daniël Pijzel. Inquiring whether Zilcken would like to discuss Sir John Everett Millais for the series on significant men and women, Pijzel also suggests including Sir Frederick Leighton, who had not yet been featured. He proposes uniting both P.R.A.s, even in a double issue if needed, referencing sketches with a format size of 2 to 2 1/2 sheets. This correspondence provides insight into the artistic and intellectual circles of the late 19th century. The letter allows us to consider the cultural values that placed certain figures in positions of prominence, while others were overlooked. It prompts us to reflect on the ongoing project of historical revision, asking who gets remembered, and why. This is a trace of a moment in time, a fleeting interaction between two individuals, now preserved for posterity.
