This capped bottle, origin and maker unknown, shimmers with possibilities. I can imagine its creator delicately layering the paint on glass. It’s so strange and beautiful! I wonder what it was like to make? The glass is so smooth, like a blank canvas in three dimensions. There’s a red line around the top and then this wonderful motif on the side: red, yellow, blue, and green. The colors remind me of Matisse, but also of folk art traditions. And the way the artist plays with symmetry and asymmetry at the same time. It looks like a flower but also like flames. I love the little dots going down each edge. You can feel the hand of the artist, so present. In a way this reminds me that all art is about the conversation that we have with each other. One artist makes something and another artist looks at it and is inspired to make something new.
