This drawing was made by Peter Hansen. Look at the frantic energy in the marks—the scratches, the cross-hatching! You can almost feel the scratch of the pen nib across the page. Imagine Hansen, his hand flying across the paper, trying to capture this scene. The image is split into two scenes. On the left, there’s a bunch of conspiratorial figures around a table. And next to that, a poor bloke is strung up by his thumbs, listening in. What’s so cool is how Hansen uses these lines to create this whole atmosphere, this sense of dread and secrecy. Are these guys the ‘enemy’? It’s so dramatic, like a stage play. Goya’s dark, satirical prints come to mind. There’s a kind of shared language of urgency and protest. Artists like Hansen speak to each other across time, creating a visual conversation about power, injustice, and the human condition. Each mark a testament to the act of bearing witness.
