This watercolour entitled, Money Bank, was made by Yolande Delasser, though we don’t know exactly when. Isn't it interesting how an everyday object can become art? The colour palette here is mostly earth tones, browns and tans, which really bring out the texture. Each little bump looks almost tactile, like you could reach out and feel the coarse surface of the money bank. It makes you wonder about the process of making this piece, did Delasser apply each little dot individually? What kind of brush did she use? That slot at the top feels so precise, doesn't it? It almost looks like a mouth, ready to swallow your coins. It's funny how a simple drawing can make you think about money, saving, and all the things we assign value to. I'm reminded of Louise Bourgeois, who also made art that elevated everyday objects to a place of reflection and emotional significance. Ultimately, Delasser's money bank is a testament to the power of art to transform the mundane into something meaningful.
