Jean Rene Bazaine made this 'Aquarelle' sometime in his life, using watercolor and ink on what looks like paper, maybe even a page torn from a notebook. The approach to making marks is wonderfully loose, almost scribbled, like a child experimenting with color for the first time. Looking closer, you can see how Bazaine lets the colors run into each other, creating these soft, blurry edges. There’s a real sense of immediacy, as if he’s trying to capture a fleeting thought or feeling. Take that red circle, for example. The way the pigment pools and dries unevenly gives it a kind of pulsating energy. It's like a little sun, or maybe an eye staring back at you. It's fun, you know? Bazaine reminds me a bit of Cy Twombly, another artist who wasn’t afraid to embrace the messiness of the creative process. Both artists seem to suggest that art is not about perfect execution, but rather about embracing the unexpected and finding beauty in the imperfect.
