Tony Feher created "It Seemed a Beautiful Day" using plastic water bottles, water, and wire. Feher, who was openly gay, often transformed mundane, everyday materials into poetic and poignant artworks. In this piece, the suspended water bottles, filled with varying levels of blue-tinted water, evoke a sense of fragility and ephemerality. These humble materials, typically discarded, are elevated to something beautiful, prompting us to reconsider our relationship with consumption and waste. Feher, who passed away in 2016, once said, “I don't think there is anything that is not beautiful.” The title suggests an idyllic moment, juxtaposed with the reality of environmental concerns. The artwork serves as a subtle commentary on our complex relationship with nature, and encourages a moment of reflection on our own fleeting existence.
