Ceres, The Planets

Editor: The garland encircling her is also interesting; it seems to be composed of grapes and oranges. Curator: Right. Grapes historically signify both earthly pleasure and spiritual redemption. Erte has condensed multiple ideas of earthly and spiritual significance in his figuration.
