This is Gabriel Huquier’s etching for the frontispiece to François Boucher’s “Premier Livre de divers Esquisses,” a work brimming with symbols of fertility and new beginnings. The central image is of a nursing mother, a figure that immediately evokes the timeless motif of maternal care, reminiscent of the Madonna and Child.
