This multicoloured plate was made in Loosdrecht and it features painted bamboo and other plants with a Kakiemon decor. Its circular form contains a miniature world, neatly framed by an ornate border. The composition is carefully balanced, with a central bamboo motif rising from a bed of stylized foliage. The artist employs a vibrant palette, juxtaposing the cool blues and greens of the leaves with the warm reds and oranges of the flowers. This interplay of colour creates a dynamic tension within the confined space of the plate. The Kakiemon style, known for its refined asymmetry and delicate brushwork, challenges traditional notions of symmetry and perfection. The plants are not realistically rendered but rather abstracted into decorative forms. This abstraction invites us to consider the underlying structure of representation itself. It questions the boundary between art and nature.
