Editor: This is a Tetradrachm of Alexander the Great, from Amphipolis. It’s just amazing to me how much history is contained in such a small object. What leaps out at you when you look at it? Curator: Oh, it whispers tales, doesn't it? I’m immediately drawn to the enduring power of image-making. How Alexander understood that crafting his likeness, like mythmaking, would ensure his immortality. Do you see the ram's horn? Editor: Yes, next to his ear? Is that about his divinity? Curator: Precisely! Coins like this weren’t just currency; they were propaganda, circulating an idea of Alexander. It makes me wonder, what symbols are we using today that future generations will study? Editor: That's so true, currency design really does tell a story. This makes me see the coin as more than just an object, but as a message hurled across time.
