Editor: This is Joana Choumali's piece, "I Scored," currently housed at the Harvard Art Museums. The figure is striking, partially transparent, with thread hanging down. What strikes you most about this work? Curator: Considering Choumali's process, I'm interested in how she manipulates materials – the layering of photography with textile elements. It blurs the lines between documentation and craft. How does that layering reflect the subject's lived experiences, their labor, their consumption of culture? Editor: That's a great point. Seeing the process makes me think about the labor involved, both artistic and in the life depicted. Curator: Exactly. It challenges our understanding of both art production and social realities.
