Gego made "Tejedura 89/13" using what looks like ink and paper, and maybe some collage, playing with geometry and line. For me, it's like she's thinking out loud about how things connect. The surface is alive with thin, wiry lines dancing over a more rigid grid. I love the way she lets the hand wobble – you can feel her in the making. Look at that web of black threads towards the bottom; it’s almost like a chaotic counterpoint to the blue squares, or maybe a shadow of them? The colors are subtle, blues and yellows that could be water or light, but it’s the contrast of the hard edges with the spontaneous lines that really gets me. Gego, like Agnes Martin, turns a potentially boring grid into something deeply poetic. It’s a reminder that even the strictest forms can be a playground for feeling and thought.
