Editor: This photograph captures the Bauhaus Building in Dessau on its opening day in 1926. It was taken by Photothek. It's striking how the geometric architecture contrasts with the more organic forms of the people and the muddy ground. What’s your take on this image? Curator: It's like the future landing on Earth, isn't it? This image, to me, is less about a building and more about a statement of intent. The Bauhaus was all about reinventing everything, from teacups to towns. Look at that stark simplicity. Can you feel the optimism, the sheer will to create a new world after the trauma of the first World War? Editor: Absolutely. There's something almost utopian about it. Thanks, I hadn't thought about that. Curator: It really feels like looking into the past, to see what the future once looked like.
