Eel 2003

What do you make of this piece? Curator: It's interesting to consider how Stark uses this imagery. The eel, held almost like a trophy, contrasts sharply with the mundane, graffitied bridge. Is this a commentary on our relationship with nature within an increasingly urbanized environment? Editor: That's a compelling idea! I hadn't thought about the urban versus natural elements. Curator: It makes you wonder, doesn't it? How do we display and consume nature, and what does it say about our society? Editor: Definitely gives me a lot to think about in terms of the role of art and our environment. Curator: Indeed. Perhaps Stark is asking us to reflect on the ethics of such a display.
