Here's this old photograph, Legerbasis peloton 2-5-5 RI Schalkhaar, anonymous, captured in tones of gray, sepia, and brown. I like to imagine the hands that have held this photograph. The hands of the people in the photograph who are looking at a younger version of themselves. A version that is no longer. What were they feeling when they were making this photograph? Perhaps this was a special moment, a marking of the time they spent together. They are lined up, like an army, with a building behind them. The arrangement of the people is intentional and orderly; these people are part of a team. On the bottom of the page, a small boat floats in the water, is this a symbol of some kind? We all stand on the shoulders of those who came before us. There is something very moving about these images, the way that they bring out our shared humanity and experience.
