Alfred Stieglitz made this photograph, Paris, using gelatin silver print. I love how Stieglitz has captured the everyday hustle of a Parisian street, all in these shades of grey. It's like a film still, capturing a fleeting moment that feels both intimate and distant. It’s an exercise in seeing and feeling. The textures are so rich here. The wet cobblestones glisten, reflecting light and shadow, and the buildings have this solidity, this weight. Your eye is drawn down the street where everything gently fades, the composition itself performing the act of looking. It reminds me of some of Gerhard Richter’s blurred paintings, that same sense of something seen through memory. Photography, like painting, is about capturing a way of seeing, and the way Stieglitz looked at the world continues to speak to us today.
